The movie I was talking about opened my eyes to a new word. I've heard of it before, though i've no idea what it really meant. Now, how do i stumble upon this movie, you might ask. Let's just say that I'm going through a phase which is somehow overwhelming me for two weeks. It'll pass. Just like all the other phases that I'd been through, when will it go away? No one knows. I don't know myself either but it'll go when it got bored of me. xD
Movie's called Taare Zameen Par. Don't ask what it means, because I didn't bother looking that up. What attracted me first was how Aamir Khan, whose other film was recently watched by me and not to mention, I loved it. This one however, is an entirely different genre and he only appeared halfway through the movie.
See, the main star isn't him. The main star is actually this kid of 8/9 in his 3rd grade and always, always failing in his exams, tests, and getting into trouble and driving his parents crazy till they sent him away to a boarding school. I know what's on ur mind. So what if a kid is lousy in his studies, or being a real pain in the ass? It's normal. Of course that's normal. I remember I had the same problem before in primary school. Believe it or not, I was this kid who cried every single day and my dad or mum had to drag me into the classroom. I was practically this *famous* kid who was a crybaby and known by almost everybody. Yes, I had such a history. People who spent their earlier days with me should know. And I actually failed in lots of tests. I was really bad in Mathematics, I remember those Short Quizzes the teacher would give on some days and I would have problem trying to interprete what she was asking, and ended in a loss. I was slow to catch up. I'm not lying, you know. This was my past. I'm not shoving it away. Come to think of it, I think that was pretty cool to have such a past >.<
Dyslexia - Specific developmental dyslexia is a disorder manifested by difficulty learning to read despite conventional instruction, adequate intelligence, and adequate sociocultural opportunity. It is dependent upon fundamental cognitive disabilities that are frequently of constitutional origin ( World Federation of Neurology)There are lots of other definitions which you can look up to but let's just keep to one here. In the US, about 5-17% of the population actually are affected by this disorder. Some of the symptoms are :
- learning new words slowly
- late in establishing dominant hand
- difficulty with rhyming, alphabets,
- confuse between after/before, over/ under etc...
I guess, most parents would actually never thought that their kids might have this learning disorder until much later. See, they'll always come up with the same opinion that their kids are just slow or being naughty on purpose. And that it'll pass when they grow up. It's something that will not cure, but can be lessen with the right educational support.
I actually liked the songs during the journey, it was honest. And I like how it speaks of wanting to be free.
So, i think the movie was kinda elaborate into introducing to us this young kid who had always been a trouble kid in school, being laughed at, spanked at by teachers, punished and I find the part where he bunked school for a day was kinda awesome. Through his journey in the busy streets of India for a day was very thorough as he sees things a bit differently from normal people. He would see the beauty in colours, or how a drop of paint landed on his face as he smiled and wiped it off. He would concentrate on things we often overlooked.
So Aamir came in pretty much later in the movie. His first appearance was very nicely done when he dressed up as some kind of magician and sang and danced with the kids in his arts class. It's really fresh to see and what else can I say? The scene brighten up the whole scenario after we see how the kid's parents dump him at the boarding school, how he was again, getting laughed at, and punished. And can I say I liked the song they were dancing and shaking their bums to lol...xDD
Aamir finally went to meet his parents and shed light upon the source of the kid's problem.
I like this book where he drew his family and as you flipped it, you see himself drifting away. *yes, this kind of method had been done in many many movies/ dramas before* but I still like it.The ending scene was...beautiful.

What's even more special is the man behind this movie was Aamir himself. He debuts as a director with this film which won Best Movie Award 2008 and Best Director 2008 at Filmfare Awards (Indian movie awards). xD
