U Me Aur Hum [H-movie]

Ajay Devgan has never really fascinated me in the Bollywood regime. Basically coz I'm more into people like Shahrukh and maybe Aamir you know...since I don't watch *much* Bollywood movies. So I only watch those which are more famous, maybe and with Karan Johar as the director. Yes, I am biased that way. And most of them stars ShahRukh.

I know of Ajay Devgan only because he is Kajol's real-life husband. I mean, I've seen him la in movies and all last time but not much, just maybe one or two, couldn't remember much anyway.

But then I was searching for movies to watch and came across this in which he acted together with his real-life wife none other than Kajol and it is his directorial debut too. So I was like " why not give it a shot?"

Now first of all, upon watching this I never knew it was adapted from The Notebook (Hollywood), I had that movie a while ago, and I did watch a little, but I never finished it. Don't ask why I guess it just didn't seem all that interesting to me at that point of time. Although i've had friends saying it was a really touching and good movie. But see, since I never finished the movie, I didn't know the similarities btw this and that until now.

So the story begins with this younger guy who fell for this girl on the cruise and then we find out his father, the *old* Ajay convinces him to just go tell the girl how he feels. And the conversation goes on and turns into a competition where Ajay asks his son to pick any girl/woman on the cruise and he will prove that he can win her over. So the son picks this older woman who is reading a book (I can't help but notice she was reading The Thorn Birds, not that it matters but yeah xD

Um...so he goes over and tried to flirt (it's funny though). And he begins to tell a story and so we were brought back to the past where we see younger versions of Ajay and Piya.

The setting is nice. I mean, cruise bah...everything looks nice on a cruise, the deep blue sea and birds flying across the sky and all...and it's time for some romance! The first half of the movie was all about how Ajay met this girl named Piya was worked as a waitress on board and tried to win her heart, going to lengths such as looking into her diary and found out her like/dislikes and dreams etc...

All was sweet and great until Piya found out he cheated his way to her and several years passed after they broke up. But Ajay never forgot her dreams like getting a dog, painting the whole house white (her fav color) and stuffs...until she appeared in front of his door (coz he left a note of his address lol).

And they got hitched after realizing they really does love each other. So...yeah...things were again good until Piya got her first attack of amnesia. Ajay was a psychiatry himself and he knew all too well about this disease but he got his mentor to guide him (since he might not be appropriate when the patient is his own wife).

And things escalated from there...soon they have a child and things got worse and worse when their child nearly drowned at home when Piya had a shutdown. This forces Ajay to send her to the facility for better care.

I should stop here really...but this story only gets better towards the end actually. The first half was more of light comedy and little romance here and there but the core is at the end when we really see how Ajay dealt with an amnesiac wife and struggling to find the true meaning of love. And i think the title fits the story very well. It translates to " You, Me and Us".

I liked the ending the best actually. The best scene in the entire movie. And very touching.

It's really not hard to guess the *twist* right from the beginning. But the ending was sweet. I love the conversation they had at the end where Ajay told Piya that sometimes Ajay has his bonus days where she remembers him. And he asks Piya whether she'd like to meet the characters he was talking bout.

Piya agrees without hesitation and Ajay asks whether she really is sure about following a stranger just like that. Piya then chuckles and said sometimes she recognizes this stranger. And she went on about how this stranger didn't even realize his bonus days.

The *bonus days* thing was fabulous imo. It's just...sweet! So we finally find out that Ajay never abandon her at the facility but brought her back home and somehow they manage till their 25th anniversary and he granted his promise that he'd bring her to the cruise again. This time, with their son. ^^

Okay, time for real judgement.
Music 3/5
Acting 4.5/5 (I'm amazed by this real-life couple's acting lol)
Overall 4/5

I might be biased but it was a nice watch, at least the end was great. Um...maybe I should go watch The Notebook now xD
